The Unfinished The Snarling Patches for Zebra2, ZebraHZ and Massive H2P NMSVSoft / Samples, Presets, Banks Of Sounds19-01-2017
A year ago, I was working on my very first feature film score, a hugely enjoyable, independent British, horror comedy called The Snarling. The soundtrack has recently been mastered for release, so I thought it would also be fun to make the synth sounds I designed for the score available too.
The Snarling soundset contains synth patches for Zebra2, ZebraHZ and Massive. There are 100 each for the two Zebra synths and 50 for Massive, totalling 250 patches.
These patches have been designed to create driving, cinematic thrills as well as ethereal, atmospheric horror. Both dynamic and creepy, The Snarling soundset is full of action basses, organic sequences, dark pads and chilling soundscapes.
The Massive sounds provide useful, digital bite, that allows them to easily cut through the mix, whilst the Zebra sounds bring a lovely, widescreen, analogue, organic edge. All of these sounds were designed to supplement the predominantly strings and percussion soundtrack, adding a very useful blend of cutting edge sonics and complex, but subtle, haunting ambience.
The Unfinished Zebra Quasar Dark Edition For u-he Zebra2Zebra Quasar: Dark Edition is a collection of 140 sounds for u-he Zebra2, with a further 140 reimagined versions of those sounds for ZebraHZ; totalling 280 sounds.
Quasar‘s focus is on electronic cinematic sounds, taking its inspiration from classic analogue synths and also cutting edge modern electronica.
The soundset was born out of working with Portuguese composer, Pedro Camacho, on his score for the Star Citizen game. Pedro was looking for some modern synth sounds that were inspired by more retro machines, to add some electronic vibes to his scintillating orchestral score. This meant trying to translate the ideas of the likes of Tangerine Dream and Vangelis through a prism of trance and techno, whilst retaining an epic, sci-fi, cinematic emotion.
This core collection of sounds fed into some wider inspiration I had from recent game scores such as Mirrors Edge: Catalyst, Quantum Break, The Division and even Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which I did a little work on. All these soundtracks were using electronic/synth sounds in a cinematic capacity that reflected what I had been working on with Pedro and what I wanted to communicate with Zebra Quasar.
Dark, punchy basses and basslines; atmospheric, expressive leads and keys; powerful, dynamic drums and drumloops; deep, colourful pads and soundscapes; driving, kinetic arps and sequences. All these patches have extra fluidity and control programmed into the modwheel and the performance X/Y pads.
The Unfinished Zebra Elysium For U-HE ZEBRA2 H2PSoft / Samples, Presets, Banks Of Sounds12-06-2016
Zebra Elysium represents the soft, dark underbelly of cinematic underscore and ambient electronica. 128 patches full of of blissful leads, kinetic basslines, hypnotic sequences, brooding basses and sumptuous pads.
Inspired by modern film scores that ripple with delicate, infectious analogue synths, Elysium packs a subtle punch. Think of the soundtracks of Cliff Martinez, James Newton Howard, Tom Tykwer and Henry Jackman, add in a little Vangelis and Tangerine Dream, and a sprinkle of BT and M83… that is Elysium.
The emphasis is on lush, lo-fi atmospheres; vintage, widescreen storytelling with a contemporary nuance. Equally at home evoking a dense, fog-set forest; rain-soaked Giger-esque futuristic metropolis; or glittering, steampunk citadel.
Zebra Elysium comes in two versions, the original Zebra2 soundset and a special expanded Dark Edition for Zebra HZ/Dark Zebra. The Dark Edition includes the original Zebra2 patches, but all has a bonus 128 sounds. These bonus sounds take the 128 original Elysium patches and push them in a darker, grittier, more analogue direction.
All the patches in Zebra Elysium come with dynamic flourishes programmed into the modwheel, and also make extensive use of Zebra’s X/Y pads that are featured in the Perform window. Also, for Elysium, a number of the pad sounds feature modulation/gate effects that can be controlled via the pitchwheel.
